Piece #25. Solo piano, 3/4 time, 66 BPM. E minor.

Inspired by Anne Carson's "Sex Question" from The Autobiography of Red — specifically the final line: "Not touching but joined in astonishment as two cuts lie parallel in the same flesh."

The right hand carries two voices throughout — parallel intervals that move together but never merge. They're close, sometimes a third apart, sometimes wider. The B section pushes them into higher register, closer together, more urgent. The A' return drops back down but the intervals have changed — they learned something from the climb.

The left hand is sparse. Open fifths, slow breath. A body holding two wounds.

Rendered with Salamander Grand.
